< i can do all things >

Some of you know that Jacob has some difficulty with self-help skills right now... such as getting dressed/undressed, washing his hands, brushing his own teeth, etc. He will try to pull up his pants and get so frustrated, and say "I need help!" We're trying to teach him to persevere and keep trying... by constantly claiming this scripture for him:

I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me. ~Phil 4:13

So, fast forward to tonight.... about 10 minutes ago. He's undressing for the night, and struggling a bit with his shirt. I try to encourage him..."You can do ALL THINGS, Jacob". So he gets the shirt off - YAY! Moving on to the underwear/pants. He gets them down to his ankles, but just can't seem to get that last little bit over his heels. As he's struggling and we're cheering him on, he says "GOD NEEDS TO DO IT!"

After laughing for a solid minute, I finally regained my composure. While it was a funny thing for a 3-year-old to say, it is also really neat. There are times when we all struggle and think we can't overcome an obstacle in our path... and we finally get to the point where we cry out for the Lord to help us - because we know it's the only way we can accomplish the challenge before us. I hope as he grows that Jacob will continue to rely on the Lord and call upon him to help with even the smallest of his daily tasks. There's nothing that God cannot do for us or work in us.

By the way - as soon as he said that, those pants came right off. :-)

I love that you found a way to encourage him and teach him in the same breath! I thought you said you weren't good with kids....?
