Thanks to some awesome books we found at McKays in Chattanooga last weekend, we had lots of fun with science experiments this week. Jacob has decided he's getting into chemistry now, so we had a little fun with Non-Newtonian fluids (a.k.a. goo, oobleck or slime).

First up was a recipe using Borax, Elmer's Glue, food coloring and water. It was so cool to see how the glue/water gelled up immediately when we added the Borax solution. I would say this slime was the consistency of Silly Putty. We saved it in a Ziploc bag for later... we'll see how long that lasts. =)

The second type of slime we made was just a mixture of cornstarch, water and food coloring. If you squeezed it, it would resist the pressure and sort of solidify... yet when the pressure was released, the slime would drip off your hand as a liquid.

This one was VERY MESSY, but super cool. The little scientist absolutely LOVED our slimy experiments... and so did I!

I am so happy with our decision to homeschool this year. The more I relax and just go with our flow, the more I enjoy it. It has taken a bit of trial and error to find our groove, and to not feel obligated to mimic what other homeschooling families are doing. The beauty of this comes when you make it fit your family, instead of making your family fit "it". I am thankful that God led us to this path and gave us the strength, and support of others, to follow it.
