< our curriculum: 2010-11 >

In spite of the mid-year move from Tennessee to Texas throwing all sorts of kinks into the plan, we are calling our first year of homeschooling good/done and moving onto year 2! We plan to start next Monday, August 16th. I'm putting the final touches on Jacob's 2nd grade curriculum, and it looks a little something like this...

History / Geography:

Math:

Bible:
  • Scripture readings and Awesome Book of Bible Facts per Sonlight Core 2
  • Memory work using Simply Charlotte Mason's Scripture Memory System

Science:

Foreign Language:

Language Arts:

  • Handwriting ~ Getty Dubay Book C, copywork and dictation from readers/Bible verses and writing letters to friends and family
  • Vocabulary ~ Wordly Wise Book 3
  • Grammar ~ undecided; may use First Language Lessons 2 or stick with the grammar in Prima Latina

Literature:

Music:
  • Composer study; 6 composers @ 4 weeks each
  • Piano lessons

Art:
  • Artist study; 6 artists @ 4 weeks each

Physical education:

  • Soccer or karate

We're trying something new this year. On Thursdays, Jacob will attend a program for homeschoolers for a few hours. I'll have more details about it in a few weeks, but hopefully it will allow him the opportunity to make some more friends and take some elective-type classes.

Girl, you're a better teacher than I'll ever be! What a well-rounded precious child you'll have...even more than he is naturally!

What an amazing 2nd grade curriculum... If you need a student teacher I would love to intern in your class! :-)

Sondra ~ we miss you!!! You are welcome to student teach anytime, if you ever make it out to TX. ;-)

Funny. We used to do a Thursday homeschool program. I actually helped teach last year. This year I needed to take some time off. Getting four kids and myself there on time (and with lunches packed) each week was a little too much for me to handle. Beautiful photos of your kids!
