< an o-K day >

Today was a BIG day at the Marler house... it was Jacob's first day of Kindergarten!! I don't even know what to say in this post as I have so many thoughts and feelings – so I'll just give a play by play to accompany the pictures.

He woke up with his alarm clock at 6:25 this morning. He was dressed and standing next to me in our bathroom by 6:33am. Excited much??

He was so excited in the car, so I just had to snap this. I tried a few others but it's hard to get a good picture when you're trying to drive at the same time. =) I asked him what he was looking forward to the most and he said, "the math and science center. It has all kinds of numbers and stuff. I want to play with that tape measure and yard stick." Figures!

Walking hand in hand with Daddy to his new school.
Posing for me on the steps... just like all of the other big kids were doing.

He got so excited about this 100 number thingy. One of the things he told me when I picked him up was that on the 100th day of school, all the kids are going to dress up as 100-year-olds and the principal, Dr. Blair, will come to them and say, "Why look at all of these grandmas and grandpas!" He got quite a kick out of that. =)
First assignment. Note that he got to take a "pal" to school today. For the record, this one is Sam. At least that's what Jacob told me... .not that I could tell the difference. =)
Right here he's telling Joe and I that he is not scared, but "Sam is a little bit scared. He's not too sure about this. But I'm okay."
Time to read the book to make all mommies cry - the Kissing Hand. Followed by our kids coming to put a heart sticker on our hands and say, "Jacob loves you"... and to give us a bag with a Kleenex in it. For the record, I did not cry. At this very moment, at least. =)
The view as we said goodbye this morning and leave him to a new world to explore. Sam kept hopping up onto Mrs. Burgess' legs into her lap. It's a good thing that Sam only goes to school one day, or else I think he might get in trouble! =) Oh, and as soon as we got there and put everything away, he raised his hand and said, "Excuse me? When is playtime?" haha. When I told him to shhh, he said "but I raised my hand, mom!"
And look at this big boy coming out to get in the car to go home. The teacher opens the door for him and shuts it behind him, and he buckles the seat belt all by himself. Yay Jacob!
First day of school officially in the books. It was just a half day... he has about 5 more phase-in days until his first FULL day of K.

We are so proud of what Jacob has overcome and accomplished in the last 5 years. He is such a blessing and a precious gift from God. I realize that my one and only baby is growing up and that makes me a bit sad, but it is also such an exciting time of promise. We get to see exactly how he will bloom and grow, and what God has in store for this little man. I can't wait!

PS - and this is what I did to distract myself while Jacob was at school today. You know what they say about exercise lifting your mood? It works!
