What is it, you ask? It's a running program to take you from couch potato (<-- this is me!!!) to running 3+ miles (no way!) in 9 short weeks. I'll be starting week 4 of my training program on Tuesday, so I think it's safe to say I'm sticking with it. ;) I am training for a 5k in October with a good friend of mine. Why on earth would I do that, you ask? Well, I'll tell ya why - it's a pretty good way to get in shape!
I started jogging to lose weight before I got pregnant with Jacob (in correlation with following Weight Watchers) and lost about 30 pounds in 10-12 weeks (?). Let's just say that was before I hit the big 3-0 - because things aren't moving that quickly this time around. BUT life is different now. Back then, I was 24 years old. I worked and could pack out my breakfast and lunch and eat it in my office... so I only ate what I had, not what was available in my pantry or refrigerator at all times of the day.
There was a water cooler right outside my office door which made it easy to make the right choice of beverage. Those of you who know me well, know that I have a thing (a.k.a. really bad habit) for REAL sugary cokes. Dr. Pepper and Mt. Dew to be exact. Well, I am not buying those anymore – and thanks to the water dispenser in my refrigerator (and a lot of Propel, Crystal Light and other flavoring), I'm choosing water at home now too. Back then, I could just make a salad for Joe and I for dinner... but now I am cooking for a growing boy who wouldn't eat salad if it were the last thing on earth!
I have told myself over the past few years that I just don't have time to exercise. In retrospect, a couple of years ago we were so entrenched in therapies and tests and early intervention stuff that maybe I really just didn't have the time - or energy. I had more pressing issues. But now I foresee that our life is changing. Jacob is going to be in Kindergarten for 7 hours a day. What am I going to do with myself? I don't know the answer to that... but I know that taking care of the one body that God gave me is going up on the list of priorities.
Phil 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I am so proud of you my friend. Now, could you motivate me to do the same?
Maybe your new outlook will rub off on me. I was walking for awhile and when I lost my baby weight I stopped. I am so lazy!!
GREAT for you! You should feel wonderful about setting your goal (5K) and sticking to it!
I'm hoping with 7 extra hours a day, I will get more frequent updates on your blog too :-) I can only say that because of my lack of posting (I live in a glass house, and I know it). Miss you. Maybe once you have met your 5K goal, you can broaden that...How about the Boston Marathon in March?
Thanks for the encouraging comments, ladies. =)
Kara - that's a pretty big jump from 5K to marathon! Do they have a half marathon? Have you ever done it?
Courtney, I've never done a marathon, sigh! But I've done a halfmarathon several times. Each time, slowly. But my goals were fundraising and on dares to complete. There's a half marathon up here in March (and of course the half in Nashville, I think in April). Let me know your thoughts, I would need a training partner, even if only by blog and email! And I'll need to get psyched up now...training here in the winter is rough!
miss you
